I am a writer of speculative fiction, especially fantasy. I'd like to say I'm also a fan, but that particular word always conjures up an image of Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes, the Number One Fan, in the film adaptation of Stephen King's MISERY, so I prefer the words aficionado, enthusiast, devotee or avid reader. And I am. All of the above.
I live in Toronto and am a graduate of the 2001 Clarion workshop. I like writing short stories and actually won some awards, but right now am trying to get a novel revised and that is consuming most of my energy. Due to illness, I must sleep at least 12 hours daily, which leaves me with about four hours functional writing time, and threetwo one functioning fingers with which to do it. I wish I could hardwire my computer to my brain and just think my writing in. I guess that's why I like speculative fiction - it's a genre in which the "possible" can become reality, and reality is resplendent with infinite possibilities.
