I became an actor because I could not be a ballerina, but was still in love with the stage. Acting seemed a great way to do it.
Was I any good? I'd say yes, but probably not the stuff that stars are made of. At that time in my life, I was terribly self-conscious, which was a hindrance. No great singer either, which cut out plum musical roles. But I was a competent dancer... Like the song goes:
· I was the first person in my graduating class at Queen's University to gain professional employment as an actor, which was a tremendous balm to my ego as my final year acting teacher had utterly devastated me at my final assessment, and only passed me, he said, to get rid of me.
· I worked in a non-equity rep company, Theatre 5 - Kingston, for a year before moving to Toronto.
